August 2013 - The journey begins!

This airplane is being built from a "kit". Thanks to CNC machines, building an airplane is much easier than it was in the days where you had to build jigs and fabricate every piece from scratch.

The kit is a collection of parts. Most parts are pre-cut and pre-drilled. Other parts need to be made from scratch. The good news is that having pre-drilled parts means that the airplane can be built without making a jig (a frame). But even with pre-drilled parts, you still ned to "match-drill" to final size, de-burr, prime (paint), "dimple" (for flush rivets) and rivet thousands of holes.

We estimate that it will take 2-3 years to complete this project. But we are making good progress and perhaps we will be flying sooner than we thought.
